He Jialin was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1961. He studied at the Chinese Painting Department of the China Academy of Art, where he obtained his Bachelors degree in 1988 and Masters degree in 1998. He also completed his doctorate degree in Chinese landscape painting here in 2004. He is currently deputy director of creation department of China National Painting Institute.
